Habitats

The East Grampian coastline encompasses urban areas and a wide range of natural and semi-natural habitats. The coastline is dynamic and highly varied, from more exposed rocky habitats such as cliffs and rocky shores to sedimentary habitats such as saltmarsh and mudflats. Coastal habitats form a transitional zone between marine systems and terrestrial systems, and are impacted and shaped by both. Coastal habitats provide a number of important ecosystem services, and many of these habitats located on the East Grampian Coast contain species and populations of national or international importance.
