Major Harbours Overview - Peterhead Harbour

Key Findings

  • A full range of information, historical context and management information can be found on the Peterhead Port Authority website
  • Peterhead Harbour is a Trust Port, operated by Peterhead Port Authority, that acts as a major centre for the deep sea fishing sector as a major supply hub for the offshore energy sector. The harbour has been in existence for over 400 years but the main harbour walls were completed in 1956.
  • Peterhead Harbour is home to a wide range of uses. As well as the fishing, cargo and oil and gas the harbours also includes a marina, seaside award beach, with very good levels of water quality, as well as a sailing club.
  • The turnover of the port has shown strong growth over the period since 2009.
  • Fish throughput by value has increased for all sectors since 2009. However pelagic species have seen the biggest increase. It should be noted that all sectors show strong annual variability.
  • Cargo showed a strong increase from 2007 to 2014 before reducing to slightly below 2007 levels.
